Presentation Framework

Registration

When registering, if the brand has enabled it, you will see options to enter your mobile number and opt in to receive broadcast messages via SMS.  Note - You can sign up for SMS features without opting in to receive broadcasts.  In this case the Toolkit will only send messages relating to content you have actively subscribed to.

The brand may limit the location of your mobile phone by country code.

Once you have registered and confirmed you email address, we will send your mobile phone a confirmation number that you will need to enter on your “My Profile” page to activate your mobile phone.

SMS Features

Once you have completed setup for your mobile phone you can subscribe to certain content items to receive instant updates whenever they are updated and subscribe to RSS feeds available on the site to receive a notification anytime an item in the feed updates.

SMS Subscription content

If the content you are viewing can be subscribed to you, you will see a “Subscribe” button.  Once subscribed, you can see a list of all content items you have subscribed to you on your “My Profile” page.

RSS Updates

To subscribe to an RSS feed via your mobile phone, visit the feeds page for the site and see the list of available feeds.  To unsubscribe, visit the feeds page again and click the “Unsubscribe” link for any categories you wish to unsubscribe from.

Manager

Brand Settings

Two new options are available in the brand settings page:

  • SMS Enabled - Whether or not SMS is available on the site.
  • Valid Country codes - A comma separated list of valid country codes.  For example, to allow mobile phones from the US and the UK, you would enter 1,44.

Mass SMS Messages

Mass SMS Functionality follows the same rules as Mass Mails.  The manager user will select a list of users and a date for delivery.  The change comes on the translate screen.  The message can be a maximum of 160 characters (70 characters for non GSM7 languages.)

In order for the Mass SMS to send, the translations must be published and the manager user must click “Save and Send” on the edit screen.

User Rules

When sending to a list of users.  Any user that has no opted in to receive messages will be skipped unless the checkbox labeled “Only users who opted in for notifications by text messages (SMS)” is unchecked.  The manager user who most recently updated the  Mass SMS will receive an email report detailed which users were skipped.

SMS Subscription Content

There is a new content template available (SMS Subscription) which gives users who have registered their mobile number the ability to get an instant update anytime the content is updated.

The translate screen for SMS content does not allow for rich text editing as SMS only supports simple text.  You are also limited to a total of 160 characters (70 for non GSM7 languages)

Please note, an SMS message will be sent to any subscribed user every time this content is published.

Content Template Specific Options

Append URL -  When checked a short URL will be appended to the content when sent via SMS.  This will affect how many total characters you have available for the message.
